LATEST UPDATES: RENOVATIONS IN THE NEW CHURCH
Now that our offer has been accepted and we are under contract, our focus now shifts towards the necessary renovations in the new church building.
The goals of renovation in the new church building have been broken up into three phases, as indicated by the fundraising goals above.
We knew that there would be a substantial amount of work to be done in a building of this age. After getting an inspection done, there are a few unanticipated items that will need to be addressed, which will increase the necessary upfront renovation costs.
These initial repairs and renovations will fix safety issues, make repairs to major systems, address urgent maintenance issues, and renovate the church space to be used for Orthodox services. All of these items must be completed before we are able to move in and hold our first service in the new building. The focus of these initial renovations will be to make the building safe and able to hold the divine services. This stage of renovations would not necessarily make all parts of the building functionable (such as the kitchen, classrooms, etc.).
Within the first year, the hope would be to have all portions of the building able to be utilized.
After this, there are items longer term maintenance items that need to be addressed, as well as other updates make the building work for the needs of the parish.
At this time it is estimated that we will have approximately $131,000 remaining after closing to be used towards renovations in the new church. At a minimum, we will need about $215,000 to cover upfront costs before moving into the new building and holding the first service. Additional costs for the future phases of work can be seen in the progress tracker.
